EastEnders fans have rumbled the real identity of Albie’s father – and it’s not Keanu Taylor or Phil Mitchell.

The BBC soap aired a huge DNA twist at the end of tonight’s episode, when it was revealed that there was no way Keanu could be Albie’s father as he didn’t have the gene that caused the Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AADT) Albie had. AADT can make a person more prone to lung and live disease in the future, but generally has no bearing on their future life.

However, for a child to have it, both their mum and dad must carry the gene, even if they don’t experience it themselves. After ordering new blood tests, the doctor confirmed that Sharon had the gene but Keanu didn’t, with him completely unaware what it meant that he wasn’t the father of Albie and someone else was.

Whilst the BBC soap has now seemingly confirmed that Albie’s dad is Phil Mitchell, some fans have been left convinced that someone else entirely might be Albie’s dad in a shock twist. A few years ago, a paternity test seemingly proved that Phil wasn’t the father of baby Albie as the test said he wasn’t a match with Albie’s DNA, but now some fans are convinced this is because the wrong DNA was taken, and it was actually Keanu’s DNA that she managed to save off, thinking it was Phil’s.

Some guesses have included that Ian Beale could be the dad, or a mystery man not even on the Square, with some fans convinced this might feed into the big Christmas death storyline and the unknown man may be killed when he learns the truth.

Speaking about the twist, Sharon actress Letitia Dean shared: “She’s in total disbelief, she just cannot believe it. Not for one moment since she did the original paternity test has she ever considered that Phil could be his dad. It’s a great surprise and one that makes so much sense. Sharon and Phil have such a history together. In one way it feels like it’s bought their story full-circle, but in another it feels like their story has only just begun. It is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.”

Letitia revealed that the whole twist will cause fireworks between her and Keanu, if he ever finds out.

“She doesn’t know what to do – she’s absolutely flawed! Sharon and Keanu have only just rekindled their engagement after months of an off and on relationship, and she knows full well that this news will blow that apart!” she added.

“On the other hand, there is such a mutual respect between Sharon and Phil, and deep down I don’t think she could or would want to keep this news from him, but he also doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to parenting so she’s worried about the influence he could have on Albie. The stakes are so high as she could stand to lose Keanu if she admits the truth.”
