We have said it before and we will say it again! 2023 has truly been a year of comebacks on EastEnders. The trend started with iconic Cindy Beale’s jaw-dropping return, and has not stopped yet. The latest returnees have been Dean Wick, and his daughter Jade Green. Branning family too, is about to get two of their daughters back in just a few short weeks- Lauren and Peggy! But that’s not all, the latest spoilers reveal that another much loved character is making their way back to Walford!
It gives us immense joy to share that fan favourite character – Johnny Carter is all set to make a smashing come back to EastEnders. However, the character is getting a recast ahead of their return. As per reports, actor Charlie Suff is taking over the role. Interestingly, ever since the character was first introduced, Charlie will be the third actor to take up the role!
The Carter Family Gets Bigger On EastEnders
“I’m so delighted to be joining such an iconic programme,” Charlie tells the media. Furthermore, he gushes that EastEnders was always up in his house while he was growing up. The charming actor has already started filming for his role. Charlie divulges that Johnny is a very complex character and has gone through a lot in his life. Thus, he can’t wait to delve deep in his personality and explore the character. The last we heard of Johnny was that he now lives and works in Manchester.
Speaking further on the return of this iconic character, EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw insists that Johnny is still very loved. Despite the fact that he has been away for the last five years. So it will be huge for him to come back. Moreover, the Carter family dynamics as well as things in general have changed a lot in town. Thus, Johnny will be returning to a very different Walford. He was previously part of some really stellar storylines on the soap.
The most significant one perhaps is that of Johnny coming out of the closet on EastEnders. And we must admit, the BBC soap had handled it very well back in 2013. The scene between him and his father – Mick was extremely heart touching. The emotions running high as a son admits his true sexuality to his father. Moreover, Micks handling of his son’s confession was terrific. We wonder what new twists Johnny’s return to the square will bring!
