This article contains spoilers from Wednesday’s (January 3) EastEnders which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) recently made the shock discovery that she was pregnant in EastEnders, after making it clear that she didn’t want to carry another child.

Though partner Zack Hudson (James Farrar) saw this as their second chance after tragically losing daughter Peach almost a year ago, Whitney was torn about what to do.

The couple had previously spent a lot of time discussing what their future would hold after losing Peach, given that they both wanted very different things in terms of having another child, but ultimately settled on becoming foster parents.

However, it was while caring for their first foster child that Whitney discovered she was pregnant, and soon revealed all to Zack.

He made it clear that he thought this was a sign, though Whitney wasn’t so sure.

When Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) believed that her IVF treatment may have worked and that she was pregnant, Whitney offered to support her as she took a pregnancy test, and offered a shoulder to cry on when Sonia’s test came back negative.

This put everything into perspective for Whitney, who knew exactly what she wanted to do.

She sat Zack down and explained the guilt she had felt when comforting heartbroken Sonia, and revealed that she understood her pain all too well.

She reminded Zack of how painful it was to want something only to have it cruelly ripped away, and revealed to Zack that she didn’t think she could go through it again.

She apologised to him as she revealed that she didn’t think she could take the baby to term, leaving Zack absolutely crushed.

With Whitney and Zack both wanting completely different things, will their relationship survive this?
