EastEnders airs game-changing twist as Sharon Watts receives big news about Albie’s test results
EastEnders spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (November 15) episode which is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) received the shock of her life after being summoned to the hospital to discuss Albie’s test results.
Albie, as viewers know, was taken to get checked over by doctors in the wake of his kidnap ordeal. Sharon was subsequently asked to come to the hospital to discuss the findings of the tests, which left her concerned.
Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), however, wasn’t worried in the slightest, given that he had staged Albie’s kidnap in a bid to prevent Sharon from taking their son out of the country and therefore he had no reason to believe the boy came to any harm.
Wednesday’s episode saw Sharon open up to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) about her fears ahead of the appointment, reflecting on Dennis Rickman’s (Bleu Landau) tragic death and how she can’t lose another child.
Phil was quick to reassure her, commenting that Albie’s test results could be nothing to worry about and it turns out that he was, in fact, correct, with the doctors informing Sharon that she has no reason to be alarmed.
Albie has a genetic condition known as AADT, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency which can mean ‘a predisposition to liver and lung disease later in life’.
The doctor reiterated that the condition isn’t serious and that many people will have it and never even know they do, revealing that it must be passed down via both parents.
In other words, both Sharon and Keanu would have the gene.
In a bid to put Sharon’s mind at ease, the consultant recommended having blood tests performed on she and Keanu.
Sharon agreed to the tests, with a subsequent scene seeing the doctor confirm that she has the gene. Keanu, however, does not.
Having missed the earlier part of the conversation, Keanu remained in the dark about what this meant, but Sharon put two and two together, realising that this means Keanu is not Albie’s biological dad.
Consider our jaws on the floor.
‘Was there anyone else in the months leading up to when Albie was born that could be his real father’, asked the doctor, with Sharon turning to spot Phil through the window, with the hardman having arrived to show her support.
In case you haven’t worked it out, this huge twist confirms a long-held fan theory that Phil is actually Albie’s dad.
Viewers will no doubt remember that Sharon and Keanu’s affair originally took place when the former was married to Phil who, at one stage, believed Albie to be his son.
