EastEnders’ Alfie ‘death’ fears sealed as he faces tough health battle after diagnosis

AI has shared its take on EastEnders' legend Alfie Moon's future and whether he'll be killed off after he recently decided to open up on his heartbreaking health battle

Fans of EastEnders were left heartbroken this week after Alfie Moon finally opened up to his friends about his cancer diagnosis.

The happy-go-lucky character played by actor Shane Richie received the news of his illness last year and underwent a prostatectomy, hormone injections and radiotherapy. Following his final radiotherapy session, Alfie was encouraged by Linda Carter to talk to Ian Beale and Billy Mitchell about his health battle.

But with his health still hanging in the balance, AI has shared it’s take on the future of Alfie and whether he’ll be killed off. It said: “The potential for Alfie Moon’s departure from EastEnders following a prostate cancer diagnosis is a complex and sensitive topic, and any decision about his character’s future would need to be handled with care and consideration. Here are some points to ponder.

“Impact on viewers: Alfie is a beloved character with a long history on the show. His diagnosis and potential death could be a very emotional and impactful storyline for viewers, particularly those who have been personally affected by prostate cancer. It’s important to consider the potential emotional toll such a storyline could take on viewers and ensure it’s handled sensitively and with respect.

A storyline involving Alfie’s diagnosis could potentially raise awareness about the disease, encourage men to get tested, and provide support and information to those affected. If this is a goal, it’s crucial to work with medical professionals and organizations to ensure the portrayal is accurate and helpful.

“Character development: Alfie has faced many challenges throughout his time on EastEnders, and a cancer diagnosis could be another opportunity for him to grow and develop as a character. It could explore themes of resilience, hope, and facing mortality, and could offer viewers a relatable and inspiring story.”

The artificial intelligence machine added: “Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to kill off Alfie Moon is a creative one that should be made by the EastEnders writers and producers. They will need to weigh the potential impact on viewers, the opportunity to raise awareness, and the potential for character development, as well as other factors such as story arcs and long-term plans for the show.

“It’s important to remember that there are many ways to explore a character’s diagnosis and journey without resorting to death. Alfie could undergo treatment and come out stronger on the other side, or he could choose to spend his remaining time with loved ones and make the most of life. Regardless of the decision, it’s crucial that the storyline is handled with sensitivity and respect for the character and the viewers.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
