EastEnders fans claim they’ve spotted ‘proof’ legendary characters will return from the dead for soap’s 40th anniversary
The BBC soap will be marking it's big milestone next year and speculation has started about what will happen
EASTENDERS fans have claimed they’ve spotted proof that iconic sisters Ronnie and Roxy will return from the dead for the soap’s 40th anniversary.
The BBC soap will be marking the milestone next year and viewers reckon actresses Samantha Womack and Rita Simons, will make an appearance – despite previously being killed off.
A fan noted that Gillian Taylforth and Michelle Collins both returned from beyond the grave after three years off and joining rival soaps.
The speculation comes after it was confirmed that Rita has joined the cast of Hollyoaks, as matriarchal figure Marie.
One fan wrote: “Reminder that they both spent three years in rival soaps before being brought back from the dead… Ronnie and Roxy are back for the 40th anniversary.. mark my words.”
Another person agreed: “I think they’ll come back. Billy helped them fake it.”
Others weren’t so sure though because the pair died on screen in dramatic scenes on New Year’s Day 2017.
The emotional episode started with joy as it appeared Ronnie was finally about to get her happy ending as she prepared to tie the knot to Jack Branning – but it didn’t take long before the big day took a turn for the worse.
After a drunk Roxy decided to take a swim, she soon found herself in trouble.
Ronnie jumped into the pool to save her but the dress weighed her down and the pair met their untimely deaths by drowning together.
Three months later, EastEnders boss Sean O’Connor revealed the reason why the pair had to die, instead of just leaving Walford.
He said: “[Ronnie and Roxy] were not the sort of characters that would leave in the back of a taxi.
“We wanted to give them an operatic ending.”
Rita previously hinted at a return to the show, saying: “I could come back because you didn’t see my body, I didn’t get a coffin scene.”
