EastEnders fans ‘work out’ twist in Gina Knight story as another character ‘gets involved’

Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) was incredibly concerned in last night’s (January 22) EastEnders as he witnessed rapist Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) flirting with Gina Knight (Francesca Henry).

Recently, Dean and Gina agreed to keep their new relationship quiet. Gina knows about Dean and Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) past and his reputation in Walford, but doesn’t believe that her new boyfriend raped Linda back in 2014.

Last night, Dean returned from a run and spotted Gina in the alley behind the pub. They flirted but Gina told Dean to stop, fearing someone might see them.

Later on, after witnessing their moment together, Jay approached Gina in the pub and wondered what she was doing getting to know Dean.

Gina told her friend that the Dean she knows isn’t like the man most people think he is. She believes that Dean is kind and a good dad to Jade (Elizabeth Green), but it left Jay feeling worried.

Towards the end of the episode, Dean attempted to prove he was serious about being with Gina by marching into the pub, kissing her and announcing to her family that they’re together.

With horrified looks on everybody’s faces, something tells us Gina’s mind won’t be swayed after comments from the likes of Linda and George (Colin Salmon), but what about Jay?

Following these scenes, EastEnders fans took to social media to express their thoughts.

This Twitter/X user wondered: ‘Anyone else think it’s key that Jay was literally the first person on the Square to find out about Gina & Dean? Having thought about it, I do. “First/Last to know” is always important in soaps. He’s got more of a role in this mess coming later, don’t he?’.

Echoing these comments, another said: ‘Jay has noticed Gina and Dean. I hope he can make her see sense.’

Gina and Jay’s friendship developed in the aftermath of Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) death.

As Jay struggled with his grief and turned to drugs to numb what he was feeling, a worried Gina tried to help, but struggled to get through to him.

Back in October, after a terrible day and many arguments with his loved ones, Jay decided to drive to Margate against Gina’s wishes.

Later, Jay’s family members were then told he had been involved in a devastating accident, with the ordeal ultimately being the catalyst for Jay seeking help and changing for the better.
