EastEnders icons reunite with former co-star four years after she was killed off

EastEnders icon Tamzin Outhwaite received a lovely surprise from her former co-stars.

The actress, who played Mel Owen in the BBC One soap, shared a cute snap alongside Emma Barton (Honey Mitchell) and Gillian Wright (Jean Slater).

Tazmin captioned the post of the trio smiling from ear to ear: ‘Absolutely loved seeing you.’

It seems as though Tazmin has been catching up with her close EastEnder co-star recently as she previously shared a selfie with Lucy Benjamin (Lisa Fowler).

Over the years, they had their fair share of dramatic storylines, from Lisa’s shooting of Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in 2000 to Mel’s dramatic death in 2019.

The actresses reunited in real life at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, where Tamzinperformed in the comedy play Noises Off.

‘Old school friends coming to see the show,’ Tamzin wrote beneath the selfie, which she posted on her Instagram Story, tagging Lucy.

Tamzin played Mel in EastEnders initially between 1998 and 2002. The actress reprised her role 16 years later, with Mel arriving back in the Square in 2018 – with a son named Hunter.

It all ended in tragedy, however, as Mel was killed after a devastating car crash. While she survived the initial crash, she was later knocked down by an oncoming lorry as a devastated Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) watched on.

Tamzin admitted that she was sad at the time when Mel died but later revealed that she is now ‘glad’ about the finality of it.

‘At first I was sad that Mel died,’ she told Inside Soap, ‘And now I am pleased because it means the door is closed and it’s done.’

While she says she was very fond of the character she played, Tamzin welcomed the idea that she couldn’t go back.

‘Part of the excitement of being an actor is the uncertainty and not knowing what the next job is,’ she said.
