EastEnders Joe Swash return date confirmed as Mickey Miller star makes comeback 15 years after axe

EastEnders' Joe Swash shot to fame when he landed the role of Mickey Miller in 2003 and now the date of his return to the soap has been confirmed 15 years after his axe

Joe Swash’s return date to EastEnders has been confirmed – and it’s sooner than fans think.

It was recently announced that Joe, 41, would be returning to the soap 15 years after his character was axed. He played the role of Mickey Miller from 2003 to 2008, but his comeback is in a different form.

Joe will host an EastEnders special, titled EastEnders: The Six – Revealed, which will delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the Christmas murder. The I’m A Celeb star will be joined by Gillian Taylforth, Balvinder Sopal, Lacey Turner, Diane Parish, Letitia Dean and Kellie Bright – the stars who play the six Walford women involved in the death of a male character.

The victim’s identity has been teased since the flash-forward episode aired in February 2023 and will likely be revealed on Christmas Day. The actresses will share their thoughts on the storyline which has had fans encapsulated for nearly one year.

EastEnders: The Six – Revealed will air on on Monday, December 11 at 8pm on BBC Three. Joe’s return to the soap was previously revealed by The Sun.

An insider told the publication: “There is so much buzz around the show at the moment and with so many big stories bosses felt it was the perfect moment to give the audience an exclusive behind-the-scenes access with a one-off interview special that will be hosted by Joe Swash later in the year.

Joe’s history on the soap makes him the perfect choice for leading the special. The source continued: “Joe is such a huge part of the EastEnders family, so he was a natural fit to present as he has such a history with the show.

“The special is unlike one they’ve done before so viewers are going to love it.” While the dad-of-four isn’t reprising his original role, he has been open about a possible return in the future.

He recently said: “EastEnders has a knack for resurrecting characters, so there’s always a possibility of a comeback! If they truly wanted me back, they’d give me a call. My life is pretty hectic with the kids, but if the opportunity aligned with my schedule, I’d be thrilled to return.”
