Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell (Natalie Cassidy and Jonny Freeman) are desperate to have a baby together in EastEnders, and recently began receiving IVF treatment.

The couple decided to take this step after Reiss revealed that he couldn’t naturally conceive, but that he wanted to have children with Sonia.

Due to the fact that Sonia already has a daughter, the couple had to go to a private clinic, with Reiss dipping into the savings of his comatose wife Debbie in order to fund the treatment.

Things seem to have progressed nicely for the couple, and recent scenes saw Sonia get excited as she suspected she may be pregnant.

Though Reiss tried to encourage her not to get her hopes up, Sonia soon confided in Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), who was thrilled for her.

With Reiss getting in a tizz about how unsanitary taking a pregnancy test would be, Whitney instructed him to join Zack Hudson (James Farrar) in the Queen Vic while she supported Sonia through the test.

After having taken the test, Whitney and Sonia sat at the dining table waiting for the results, as Sonia told Whit that she was trying not to get too excited.

When she was finally able to look at the results, Sonia was devastated to see that they were negative.

Though she tried to put on a brave face, Sonia emotionally revealed that she had thought she could feel something growing, which had convinced her that she was pregnant.

As she realised she would have to go through the procedure and the hope all over again, Sonia broke down, revealing to Whitney how desperately she wanted to have a baby.

After learning the news, Reiss rushed home to comfort Sonia.

He pointed out that they had taken the test really early, so if they tested again in a few days they could get a different result.

He also explained that they had other embryos waiting, as well as enough money to pay for two more rounds of treatment.

Despite her grief, Sonia agreed that they would try again. Will things work out in their favour next time?
