Tough times lie ahead for Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) as he and Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) continue their IVF treatment in EastEnders.

Their plans to have an IVF baby are going well, according to doctors, but then unexpected bad news leaves Reiss distressed.

The couple recently started IVF treatment after a rollercoaster of a ride which started with Sonia having a pregnancy scare – sending her into a panic as Reiss had insisted he didn’t want children.

But the truth eventually came out, with Reiss admitting he was infertile – and that it was easier for him to say he didn’t want kids than reveal it.

Now unexpected news could spell tragedy for Reiss, as his wife Debbie – who needs full-time care after suffering a severe stroke – has developed a bad infection.

Reiss had originally kept comatose Debbie hidden from Sonia, until Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) told her he’d overheard Reiss on the phone.

Having repeatedly patched things up with Sonia – after keeping Debbie and his infertility secret – she agreed to think about his suggestion that they try IVF.

But his secrets haven’t stopped there.

As a mum already – to grown-up Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) – Sonia had feared she wouldn’t get free IVF on the NHS.

So Reiss said he’d found a forgotten bank account and could pay for three or four cycles of the treatment – but he’s actually using Debbie’s money.

Now, after being told by the hospital that the IVF is on track, Sonia organises a romantic night for the couple.

But in upcoming scenes, Reiss takes a sudden phone call from the hospital – he’s told that Debbie has developed a bad infection and is very poorly.

He dashes to the hospital to be with her, while Sonia confides in Kathy that she fears this could wreck their IVF plans.

Sonia also fesses up about how she is haunted by Debbie – and how ashamed this makes her feel.

So what lies ahead for Reiss?

How poorly is Debbie and how could this latest emergency affect her?

Are Reiss and Sonia’s IVF plans ruined – and could the truth about the cash come out?
