EastEnders spoilers: Sam Mitchell explodes Phil Mitchell’s life after he orders her to leave for good
This article contains spoilers for Wednesday’s (January 17) EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) has a habit of turning up in Albert Square and wreaking havoc for as many people as possible, and her recent EastEnders stint has so far proven to be no exception.
In recent scenes, Sam discovered that brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) had cheated on wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) – information that would prove to be dangerous in her hands.
This, plus the fact that Phil was refusing to give Sam her share of Aunt Sal’s inheritance, was a deadly combination.
Sam wasted no time in blackmailing Phil over his sordid secret, promising to tell Kat everything unless he gave her her share of Aunt Sal’s money.
When Phil pointed out that she still owed him £50,000, and that money still didn’t cover it, Sam pointed out that she had been working in Peggy’s for free to try and pay it off, and made it clear she was serious about her plan to tell Kat.
With the blackmail playing on Phil’s mind, it didn’t take long for Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) to realise something was wrong, and soon Phil had confided that Sam had dirt on him and wanted her money.
Ben was quick to advise him to just hand over the money for the sake of a quiet life, which got Phil thinking, and eventually he promised Sam that she could have it, but on one condition: She leave Albert Square.
Sam wasted no time in paying son Ricky Mitchell (Frankie Day) a visit, where she told him that she’d have to go away for a while after standing up to Phil over Aunt Sal’s inheritance.
Surprisingly, Ricky was totally understanding, and praised her for standing up for herself against bully Phil.
With Ricky’s blessing, Sam headed to Phil and Kat’s joint karaoke birthday party, where he soon handed over the cash.
However, things turned nasty when Phil compared Sam to their dad, calling her weak and a coward. When Sam pointed out that he must really hate her, Phil retorted by saying that he wouldn’t give her a second thought after she left.
Hurt and angry, Sam promised she’d give him something to remember, before stepping up to the microphone in front of a packed out Vic.
It was there that she began a speech about family, and Phil’s previous marriages, before announcing that he had slept with Emma, leaving Kat gobsmacked.
How will she react, and will Sam face Phil’s wrath?
