Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) is determined to move on with her life after finally escaping her abusive marriage to Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) in EastEnders, but he refuses to make things easy for her.

Nish has always been controlling and, despite Suki having left him, Nish has gone out of his way to prove that he is still in control in recent scenes which saw him out her as a lesbian to the Giani from their Gurdwara.

Suki has struggled with her sexuality for several years and has only just started to come to terms with the fact that she is a lesbian herself.

After agreeing to discuss their divorce with a mediator, Suki ran into old friend Barminder and eventually admitted that she had left Nish, but couldn’t bring herself to tell her why, nor introduce Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) as her girlfriend.

This once again proves that Suki is still on her journey to coming out and accepting herself, which makes Nish’s actions all the more deplorable.

When she arrived to discuss the divorce, she was blindsided by the presence of the Giani, whom Nish had invited knowing that the following conversation would humiliate her.

As the Giani asked what had gone wrong in their marriage, Suki uncomfortably explained that they had had ‘irreconcilable differences’, before Nish announced that she had fallen in love with a woman, leaving Suki crushed.

He twisted the knife even further when he reminded her that only a year ago the Akal Takht had said that homosexuality was not accepted.

The Giani was quick to jump in in support of Suki, reminding Nish that the goal of all Sikhs was to hold no hate for anyone, before assuring Suki that she would have plenty of support from the Gurdwara.

Once the Giani had gone, Suki wasted no time in addressing Nish’s cruel behaviour, revealing that she was already ashamed, had spent a long time believing that the way she felt was wrong, and that if she had given into it she would have lost everything.

She explained how she was trying hard to learn to like herself, and allow herself to accept that how she feels and what she wants is okay, and defiantly told Nish that she would get there one day and never look back.

As Suki left, Nish was quick to follow, and a colossal row erupted about what each of them had done to ruin each other’s reputations.

When Nish threatened to drag Suki through the courts and out her to everyone in their community in the process, she warned him not to leave out the part of the story where he had attempted to have Eve killed.

Nish argued back that Suki had nothing before they got together, and he was determined to take everything from her and leave her completely ruined.

However, Suki was stronger than he thought and challenged him with three simple words: ‘Bring it on.’

Will Nish succeed in destroying Suki, or will he finally get his comeuppance?
