EastEnders star Shane Richie has called for a romance between Alfie Moon and Linda Carter, who has supported Alfie since he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Richie teased a relationship between Alfie and Linda while opening up about the possibility of Alfie and Kat reuniting.

When asked if he would like to see Alfie and Kat back together, Richie said: “Yeah. Not yet, though. I love Jessie [Wallace, who plays Kat] to pieces, and even when we’re not filming we get together between scenes.”

According to Richie, he spoke to Jessie Wallace about the famous couple getting back together, who agreed that the time isn’t right for Alfie and Kat. “She agrees with me,” Richie said of Wallace. “Let’s see how Phil and Kat play out, and maybe Alfie and Linda…”

Quizzed on if a romance is on the cards for Alfie and Linda, Shane said: “Me and Kellie Bright [who plays Linda] were talking and we would love to see something happen. It might ignite some jealousy in Kat if she sees Alfie with someone else.”

“Some of the older fans will always want Kat and Alfie. We were always on the cover of Inside Soap, and we had 15 million viewers back then. There were 15 or 16-year-old kids who wanted our relationship who are now married with children.

“But there’s a whole audience who don’t know the history. They don’t think Alfie has the right to be with Kat and they like seeing him with Linda. Those two have a different kinds of spark that plays on friendship.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
