Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) is in serious trouble in EastEnders after having confessed to planting drugs on cousin Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa).

However, dad Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) believes that he can get them both off, provided that Penny gives up information on criminal boss Juliette.

Jack discovered Juliette’s involvement in Penny’s crime after a conversation with Peter Beale (Thomas Law) and was quick to pass the information on to his colleagues, much to Penny’s horror.

As Jack encouraged her to grass on her boss as part of a deal, Penny was reluctant to do so, pointing out that the last time someone she knew crossed a criminal she was left in a wheelchair.

When Penny was a child, she was knocked down by a car driven by a drug dealer Jack had arrested.

The dealer was sent to prison despite being innocent, thanks to Jack paying a drugs baron in order to receive tip-offs.

Determined to seek revenge against Jack for his wrongful imprisonment, the dealer deliberately drove his car into Penny and her mum, Selina, while they were waiting at a bus stop, with Penny’s spinal chord being severed in the process.

Given what she went through, it is understandable why Penny was reluctant to agree to the deal Jack was presenting.

Jack assured her that she would be protected, and when she retorted that she wasn’t last time, he promised he would never let her down again.

As Jack begged her to take the deal in order to see her and Lauren go free, Penny seemed conflicted.

Will she turn on Juliette in order to save herself and Lauren from a long stretch behind bars?

And if she does, will Jack be able to keep his promise to keep them safe?
