Strictly stars at centre of favouritism row after claims they are getting preferential treatment by BBC bosses
The Strictly pair are very much seen as ‘BBC favourites’ by their co-stars.
ZARA McDermott and Bobby Brazier are at the centre of a favouritism storm brewing on Strictly Come Dancing.
Both are rising stars on the BBC — with documentary-maker Zara, 26, tied into a series of deals and Bobby, 20, in a leading role at EastEnders.
But grumbles of discontent are growing behind the scenes — and among viewers — over their treatment, especially since Zara was saved in the dance-off on Sunday.
A show insider said: “Bobby and Zara are very much seen as ‘BBC favourites’ by their Strictly co-stars.
“After she was saved there were more than a few eyebrows raised backstage.”
Bobby has impressed on the show so far but former Love Islander Zara less so.
This weekend, she finished down the leaderboard for her American Smooth with Graziano Di Prima.
In the dance-off, she was up against BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Eddie Kadi and Karen Hauer who had placed last.
Zara was saved by all the judges — Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke.
Viewers did not agree, saying Zara spent most of her dance in the air.
One fan commented: “The judging this week was diabolical!”
Our source said: “Bobby and Zara are both big deals for the BBC. There are rumours of an ‘agenda’ to further them both on the show.
“There seems to be an element of jealousy that Zara is through to another week. She is very much a golden girl for the BBC.
“And by giving Bobby a whirl on Strictly they can gauge his popularity outside the soap.”
Zara, in particular, has been courted by BBC bosses who think her reality TV background will help win over younger audiences.
The BBC had no comment when approached by The Sun.
A show source said: “All of the judges are hugely experienced individuals who judge on dance and dance alone in the main show and in the dance offs.
“Any conspiracy theories suggesting otherwise are simply untrue.”
