Sharon Watts’ son Albie has always been known to be Keanu Taylor’s son on EastEnders.

Albie has been front and centre of a big storyline on the BBC soap as of late, when Karen Taylor and her son Keanu fake kidnapped the baby in a bid to get back at his ex Sharon, who was considering taking a job opportunity abroad and taking her with him. Sharon was supported by her family and friends including Kat Slater and ex Phil Mitchell, who even offered to pay the ransom for her.

Whilst Albie is now back with his parents, Sharon was left terrified by what happened to her son and it only brought her and Keanu closer, making her realise what she was losing. The pair have since decided to give their relationship another go and Keanu ended up proposing to Sharon earlier this week, which she graciously accepted.

The pair have been distracted lately though after growing concerned about Albie and his health. When he was checked over at hospital after the kidnapping, the doctors ordered more tests and Sharon got a call yesterday to ask them to come to the hospital.

She has been terrified about what it could mean, fearing the worst for her and Keanu’s son. It has caused some friction between the pair, given that Keanu seems to think everything will be ok – whilst Sharon’s concerns are much deeper.

*THE SECOND PART OF THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT’S EPISODE WHICH AIRS AT 7.30PM ON NOVEMBER 15TH ON BBC ONE*

In shocking scenes this evening, it was confirmed after hospital tests that Albie has a condition called Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AADT), which is genetic and must come from his parents. The doctor explained that it wasn’t serious but it could cause issues with lung and liver disease later down the line. However, she was reassured that most people have it and aren’t affected by it.

The doctor confirmed that the AADT gene had to be passed on from both parents, so both her and the baby’s father Keanu would have the gene. Worried about what it might mean for both of them, Sharon suggested they get the blood tests done.

At the end of the episode, it was confirmed that Keanu didn’t have the gene and thus couldn’t be the father of Sharon’s son Albie. By the look she gave her ex Phil Mitchell, it shows that he is the father of the little boy – but what will this mean for Keanu and Sharon?
