Will BBC EastEnders Christmas Day episode be released early on iPlayer? Timing and details revealed

EastEnders is lining up an explosive Christmas Day whodunnit where one person, potentially more, will be killed off in dramatic scenes with the BBC One soap dropping plenty of hints

EastEnders viewers are eagerly awaiting Christmas Day as the hit BBC One soap is set to air an explosive whodunnit festive murder.

Earlier this year, in a soap first, the hit BBC One show released a flashforward glimpse at the dramatic scenes with six women – Denise Fox, Kathy Beale, Linda Carter, Sharon Watts, Stacey Slater and Suki Panesar – faced with a mystery dead man at the Queen Vic.

Since then, EastEnders has released explosive trailers for each of the six women, dropping clues left, right and centre while they have also confirmed the potential victims in a line-up of seven. These characters are Phil Mitchell, Keanu Taylor, Ravi Gulati, Dean Wicks, Nish Panesar, Rocky Cotton and Jack Branning.

EastEnders typically airs 7:30pm Monday to Thursday with the hit BBC One soap releasing the episodes on BBC iPlayer ahead of time for eager soap fans. However, if viewers are hoping to have their Christmas Day fix early on BBC iPlayer, they may be disappointed.

It has been confirmed that the Christmas Day episode will not be released early on BBC iPlayer at 6am with soap watchers having to tune in at 9:45pm for the hour-long special when it airs. However, the explosive aftermath will be released early as the Boxing Day episode will follow the 6am BBC iPlayer schedule and will air on TV at 8:25pm. The rest of the week will return to the usual schedule of 7:30pm.

As well as the highly-anticipated murder, the Christmas Day episode is also thought to be the day that Sharon and Keanu tie the knot, as pictures on location from filming showed cast filming the scenes. But will the wedding go ahead given two huge bombshells could soon drop?

Soap watchers will recall that Sharon still doesn’t know that Keanu was responsible for son Albie’s kidnap and ransom note while Keanu doesn’t know that Phil is in fact Albie’s biological father.

Elsewhere, spoilers on the EastEnders website for the big episode read: “Christmas fever is in full swing in Walford. Sharon and Keanu prepare to say, ‘I do.’ The Mitchell family lunch is interrupted by an unexpected visitor.

“Jay receives an unexpected Christmas present. And in a flash, Denise, Kathy, Linda, Sharon, Stacey and Suki’s lives are permanently changed forever as a Walford male meets his fate in The Vic.”
