Mum-of-six Karen has become a firm favourite since she arrived in Walford six years ago.

Lorraine previously opened up about her shocking exit, telling The Sun she is gutted to be leaving the soap, but added that now it’s sunk in, she’s also looking forward to future opportunities.

The actress told us: “I was sad, it was a mix of emotions, it’s sad but it’s exciting as now I can go and do what I want.”

Ahead of her imminent exit, Lorraine took to social media and liked a string of tweets which all slammed the soap for her shock axing.

“I can’t believe they are getting rid of Karen. She’s comedy gold,” one of the tweets read.

“I hate the way they’re making Karen so ridiculous,” said another.

She liked a third tweet which suggested Karen’s new attitude led to the character getting the axe: “They’ve switched the vibe of your character from someone we loved the energy of to someone that we can’t stand to hear moan anymore.”

The EastEnders star liked another tweet which slammed the soap for their treatment of her and her on-screen son: “Absolutely ludicrous, poor Danny Walters came back for this? He was saying he hoped Sheanu got married. Even Lorraine Stanley is being thrown under the bus with it.”

Lorraine has not revealed details of her exit, but said she hopes the door will be left open for her character to return at the Pink Ribbon Gala earlier this year.

She then teased: “I can’t say too much, but if they kill me, then I would never watch EastEnders again.”

But, despite the soap star’s pleas, it looks as if she could be killed off in the soap’s upcoming fire storyline.

In scenes airing this autumn, a terrifying blaze will rip through Kathy’s cafe. It will destroy the iconic Albert Square setting and take the life of one of the locals in the process.

About the upcoming storyline, a source told The Sun: “Bosses are staying tight-lipped about who’s behind the attack and who is left fighting for their lives, but viewers can expect lots of drama as the storyline unfolds on-screen and the residents of Walford deal with the fallout of the event.”

Speculation is rife that Karen will be the one to die in the fire, but the exact details of her exit are being kept under wraps.
