EastEnders star Shona McGarty left heartbroken as she makes ‘hardest decision of her life’
Shona is gearing up to bid farewell to EastEnders soon as she seeks to explore new opportunities
EASTENDERS star Shona McGarty was left heartbroken as she made the ‘hardest decision of her life’.
The 32-year-old shared a series of photos on Instagram, commemorating her dog, who she recently had to put down.
She captioned the post: “Today has been one of the hardest decisions I’ll ever make. My beautiful fur baby Coco Chanel, will be put to sleep at 3.30pm.
“Coco has fought through heart failure for years. I’ve done everything I could, every treatment, every medication, but they just aren’t working anymore, and my brave little bubba has had enough.
“And even though you’re so sick, you still kiss my nose. I’ve been away doing pantomime for 6 weeks missing her like crazy. During the last week, she has really deteriorated.
“Myself and your little sister Cece, will miss your happy little face, and gorgeous minstrel eyes, my precious little “Coco bean” my silly “Coco Loco” Thank you for the best 10 years of my life.
“You know all my fears, anxiety’s, and secrets. You saw me through some of the worst times and struggles in my life. We’ll never forget you. I love you… x”
One fan commented: “I’m so sorry. She is so strong and so are you!”
Another added: “Sorry to hear your sad news..our animals are always there no question and no judgement..just love.”
Outside of starring in pantomimes, Shona has played Whitney Dean in EastEnders since she was 16 but has taken the “difficult” decision to leave amid a cast shake-up.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun on Sunday, Shona said: “I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders. I have loved my years in the show.
“I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships — and family — which will endure.”
Her final scenes will be broadcast early this year — when her contract is believed to run out — and producers are deciding on her exit storyline.
