Devastation for fans as EastEnders icon quits and she’s already gone
This article contains spoilers from Thursday’s (January 18) EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
EastEnders has aired a shock exit for Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf), following her huge bombshell in the Queen Vic which saw Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) marriage to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) thrown into chaos.
Sam took to the stage at their joint karaoke party to announce that Phil had slept with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), leaving everyone in the room totally gobsmacked.
Poor Kat was completely devastated, and though people tried to convince her that Sam might be lying, she admitted that she knew in her heart that it was the truth.
Though Phil tried to deny it, Kat insisted he tell her what really happened, and soon their marriage was in tatters as Phil apologised for what he’d done.
Meanwhile, Sam headed over to say her goodbyes to son Ricky Mitchell (Frankie Day), knowing that she would soon have to leave the Square.
However, when Jack shared his disbelief at her leaving again, she pointed out that he was a hypocrite, given that he’d barely seen Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) through her childhood.
With Kat having stormed out and Sam having been chucked out of the Branning’s, Phil soon came face to face with sister Sam, and the fireworks began all over again as he yelled at her for ruining his marriage, despite him having already paid her off.
Furious Phil insisted that Sam leave the Square, and Sam had enough sense not to cross him.
Unfortunately, Ricky overheard their shouting match, and realised that his mum had lied about standing up to Phil, and had actually been blackmailing him the whole time.
Thankfully, he agreed to see her soon, and the pair parted on slightly better terms than Sam’s previous departures.
With almost everyone on the Square having turned against Sam for her actions, will she ever be welcomed back, or is this the last we will ever see of Sam Mitchell?
