EastEnders have confirmed the identity of Gina Knight’s ex-boyfriend – amid speculation it could be Dean Wicks.

On the BBC soap tonight, Gina struggled as she learned that Jay was in an accident and rushed to hospital after crashing his car whilst under the influence of drugs. Cindy offered to support her daughter by driving her to the hospital. Gina then opened up to her mum about what happened to her ex-boyfriend, who she revealed was called Antonio.

Showing him a photo, Cindy said: “He’s a looker. Older than you?” as Gina replied: “He was 19. I was 16.” When Cindy said that she hoped he didn’t take advantage, Gina then admitted: “He was the one that got me into drugs. That’s why dad went mad when he found out Jay was using; I think he thought he’d lead me down the wrong path, like I haven’t got a brain in my head.”

“But you can understand why he’d think that?” Cindy said, defending her ex. Gina replied: “No actually because if he knew me, he’d know I’m six years older and I’m not as screwed up as I was then. And before you say it, that few months ago was a mistake.”

When Cindy admitted: “That was because of me, I’m sorry,” Gina then replied: “What’s done is done.” Cindy then probed her daughter to tell her more about what happened to Antonio. Gina admitted: “He died. He started hanging out with a new crowd, older boys into motorbikes like him. And they found his body on the beach,” as Cindy told her how sorry she was.

Cindy said: “There weren’t many sorrys back then, not from dad, not from Anna. They were glad he was gone. They were scared he was pulling me away from them. So yeah, that was that. One minute he was the centre of my universe and then he wasn’t. I blamed myself a lot. I turned a blind eye, and that was why I was so determined not to do that with Jay. But it didn’t work; he’s probably dead too.”

Gina has been desperate to help Jay after her own struggles with her ex-boyfriend Antonio and hasn’t been afraid of calling Billy and Ben out for their lack of support of Jay after all that’s happened to them as a family.
