BBC EastEnders in hot water after soap airs accidental F-bomb during episode

The stars of BBC soap EastEnders were ringing in the new year in scenes that aired on Monday, but eagle-eared viewers were certain they could hear a swear word being uttered

EastEnders has landed itself in trouble after accidentally airing an F-bomb that could be heard during the New Year’s Day episode.

In the build-up to the big day as the cast welcomed in the new year, BBC producers seemingly failed to omit the awkward blunder. The episode, which aired on Monday (January 1), was an important one as the Square ringed in the new year with a bang.

For the characters, it was a celebration as the residents of Walford counted down the last few seconds of 2023 ahead of the clock striking midnight. Bringing in 2024, many of the show’s younger characters went on a lavish night out at nearby bar Peggy’s.

Despite being set one day previously, the episode was the first to air in 2024. But it was in the midst of the show where the expletive, which may have been lost on many fans, was heard.

Many of younger characters, including Bernie Taylor, Callum Highway and now-dead Ben Mitchell were seeing getting ready for a night out on the town. As the last moments of 2023 ebbed away, the party was in full swing with music galore.

In one of the scenes, a track was played by popular DJ Martin Garrix titled “Animals”. The song was being blasted throughout the bar as the group downed shots together, getting progressively more drunk.

But EastEnders bosses seemingly failed to double check the suitability of the song, as the explicit version was played. As a result, during the scene the F-bomb could be heard in the background, leading many viewers to be left stunned.

The scenes, which aired before the watershed, showed Gina Knight screaming to the group to take a selfie together. As the band of younguns came together to take the cute snap, the background music could be heard saying: “We’re the f***ing animals.”

However, despite the faux pas from BBC bosses, it seems the blunder has been rather forgotten about. The episode currently remains on the BBC iPlayer, where the swear word can still be heard to this day.

Elsewhere in the dramatic episode, Peter Beale could be seen leaving the club early to bring a girl home that he had met. However, the mood soon shifted when he got a call from his ex Lauren Branning who told him she would be coming home to Walford from Paris with their son.

But things soon took a turn for the worse as Lauren was stopped at airport security in Paris before she could make it home. During a search through her luggage, it was revealed she had been carrying drugs in her case, which were reportedly planted by Penny on the way to the airport.
