BBC EastEnders ‘leak’ sees major villain ‘return’ for The Six plot 7 years after off-screen exit
A now-private TikTok from an EastEnders newcomer has seen fans of the BBC soap spot a man who looks very much like a legendary villain filming in the background
Eagle-eyed EastEnders fans are convinced Matt Di Angelo has returned the BBC soap after spotting a man who looks very much like the actor in the background of a now-private teaser video.
Aaliyah James, who plays Avani, shared a behind-the-scenes look at filming for EastEnders‘ Christmas storyline on TikTok earlier this week, with a picture tribute to the late Lola shown on the bar of the Queen Vic. However, it’s a male actor in the background who has caught the attention of eagle-eyed soap fans.
“This BTS pic of filming from this week, the guy in the background looks like Dean,” one fan declared on Twitter aka X when discussing the now-private TikTok from Aaliyah. “DEAN?! Is this real #Eastenders,” another added when sharing the telling snap, with a third quipping: “waking up and seeing dean is returning to eastenders, kinda glad bc the guy who plays him is gorgeous, kinda not glad bc the character is a b***end.”

One Twitter user confident actor Matt is the man pictured in the behind-the-scenes image mused: “Although Ive said from the start I think Dean is returning, I’m gutted it’s been leaked. Would’ve still been shocking and unexpected on halloween to suddenly see him reappear #eastenders.”
Others thought the possible sighting of Dean means Max Branning won’t be making a return to Albert Square, with one moaning: “Ah Ffs Max returning would’ve made so much more sense. Nobody asked or wants Dean to return. The only good thing about him returning is that Shirley might return too. #Eastenders.”
Strictly Come Dancing star Matt played Dean Wicks from January 2006 until February 2008, before returning in 2014 and leaving again in 2016. EastEnders fans saw as Dean was arrested attempted rape with Matt’s final scenes set in court airing on 4 and 5 February 2016. On 19 August 2016, Dean was acquitted of attempted rape after standing trial off-screen.
Dean shares a history with several Walford residents, and he was involved in horrifying scenes with Linda Carter back in 2014. Now, following the news a character will be murdered at Christmas, and with Linda being a suspect, some viewers are convinced he will be back soon – and that he might be the victim. The TikTok video sending fans wild on social media has only added more weight to this theory.
This Christmas, one male character will be killed off in scenes at The Queen Vic, which sees Stacey Slater alongside Suki Panesar, Kathy Beale, Denise, Sharon Watts and Linda Carter standing over a dead body. One of the women are tipped to be the killer while details of what happens and who dies remain unknown but the victim is wearing amber cufflinks.
