BBC EastEnders’ Matt Di Angelo’s very famous ex-girlfriends before marriage and fatherhood

Actor Matt Di Angelo, best known for playing Dean Wicks in EastEnders, is now happily settled into married life and fatherhood, but his dramatic love life was once the talk of gossip columns

Matt and his wife Sophia Parry announced the arrival of their twins on social media

Angelo, who will reportedly be reprising the role of EastEnders villain Dean Wicks, is now happily loved up with wife Sophia Perry, who he’s previously described as being “the Saka to [his] Emile Smith Rowe”. Matt proposed to wedding planner Sophie over beachside pizza and champagne during a 2019 trip to the Dominican Republic and said ‘I do’ at a ceremony held at Grosvenor Chapel, London in September 2021.

In August 2022, Matt and Sophia welcomed their adorable baby twins to the world, with the smitten dad proudly sharing pics of his “dynamic duo” Raphael and Daphne on Instagram to the delight of followers. Long before finding his feet with dad duties, however, Matt had a pretty eventful love life and has had some very famous girlfriends along the way.

Love with Strictly star

Long-time Strictly Come Dancing fans will no doubt recall that Matt was at the centre of one of the show’s very first scandal, with his relationship with professional dance partner Flavia Cacace sparking controversy. Matt and Flavia were partnered up in the fifth season of the show, way back in 2007, and it wasn’t long until their close friendship turned romantic.

Early on in the season, Italian ballroom champion Flavia split with her boyfriend of 11 years Vincent Simone, who went on to blame Matt for the break up. Vincent, a professional dancer himself, is understood to have been left infuriated by flirtations and late-night phone calls between the pair, whose onscreen chemistry delighted fans week after week. Matt adamantly refuted such claims, however, stating that he didn’t allow himself to develop feelings for Flavia until he knew she was single.

Speaking about his strong passion for Flavia at the time, Matt told the Mirror: “When dancing sometimes we had to look like we wanted to rip each other’s clothes off. I wasn’t sure what was real and what wasn’t. It wasn’t until the final I realised I fancied her. We were together from 8am till 3am and because she was so excited, she looked extra beautiful. When I saw her in the Mrs Santa Claus outfit, I knew I’d fallen for her. I want Flavia to be my girlfriend and I don’t want to be big-headed but I think she wants to be with me too.”

Things weren’t to last, however, and in 2010, Flavia and Matt parted ways, but there appears to be no hard feelings between the pair. In an interview with The Sun, Flavia described their break up as “amicable”, stating: “We have broken up. It was due to our work – travelling so much and being away from home so much.”

Flavia went on to find love again in the Strictly ballroom, falling head over heels for actor Jimi Mistry in season eight of the show. The twinkle-toed lovebirds went on to tie the knot in 2013, and are still married to this day.

Romance with Miss Universe hopeful

In 2011, it was reported that Matt was dating Miss Universe Great Britain finalist Rosie Colicci, with the soap star spotted looking on longingly while Rosie hosted the Joshua Foundation charity gala at London’s May Fair Hotel. A source told the Mirror: “They’ve been dating for a little while now, but this was their first public outing as a couple. Matt’s chuffed he pulled a Miss Universe contender.”
