Staying in the theme of the comeback this season on EastEnders, we have an exciting news to share! One of the most iconic characters of the BBC One soap could be on her way back to Albert Square! In a recent media interaction actress Nina Wadia has shared the possibility of making a comeback as Zainab. Long time viewers of the soap will remember that the actress and comedian played Zainab between 2007 and 2013. However, after a spectacular five year run, she decided to part ways with the soap.
“Part of me needed to leave and I was devastated,” Nadia told OK Magazine about her decision of leaving EastEnders in favour of pursing other opportunities. After an extended time on the soap, Nadia felt like she couldn’t do it anymore. The actress said that it was like “climbing the walls with just playing Zainab.” Thankfully, she admits that the makers were kind enough to let her go without killing the character. Therefore, she feels confident at some point she will return to the BBC One soap. Furthermore, she added that despite the fact that she has done many substantial roles after Zainab. Including Netflix’s sandman, she still gets recognized as Zainab the most.
The Zainab Effect Of EastEnders
“I still get called Zainab when I’m out and about,” she mused. Further adding that fans regularly ask her when will she return to EastEnders. Some of them even ask her if she still loves Masood, even after a decade of leaving the soap. However, Nadia also shared her two bits about some of the negative aspects about being on soaps for too long. She acknowledges that doing EastEnders has taken her profile to another level. But, if you don’t know how long you must stay in it, it can kill your career. Perhaps because that role becomes the actor’s identity.
Previously, Nadia has spoken about how Zainab had become synonyms to her. And after EastEnders no casting director was even touching her for a different role. However, it seems that she has managed to break free of that imitation now. After leaving the BBC One soap, she appeared on Netflix’s stellar show The Sandman, and also the TV show, Count Abdullah. Moving forward, she is all set to narrate the children’s TV stop-motion series Tweedy and Fluff. But considering that she insists that she will return to her former soap at some point, we will be eagerly wiating! What about you? Tell us in the comments. Meanwhile,
