EastEnders cancelled tonight in shock schedule shake-up

Despite having to miss out on an instalment, viewers will be able to catch up with all of tonight's drama in Walford.

THINGS have taken a turn in Albert Square as Phil Mitchell is slowly uncovering the truth about Albie’s kidnapping ordeal.

But while secrets unravel and bonds are formed, EastEnders has been removed from Tuesday’s (December 5, 2023) schedule. Here’s why.

BBC One viewers have grown accustomed to catching up with the London-based show, which closely follows the daily One Show, from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm.

Unfortunately, soap fans will have to wait another day before finding out what’s ahead for Albert Square residents as the long-running program has been scrapped from tonight’s schedule.

Drama has been put on hold until tomorrow, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in favour of some friendly footy.

Sports presenter and broadcaster Eilidh Barbour will be live from Glasgow’s Hampden Park as Scotland face England in the final round of group games in the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League.

The match will be kicking off at 7.45pm, thus completely taking over the regular soap schedule.

However, as mentioned above, EastEnders will return on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

And while a week in Walford usually ends on a Thursday, the BBC has agreed to make an exception, allowing soap fans to get their full fix.

EastEnders will be airing Friday, December 8, during its regular time slot and will be followed by MasterChef: The Professionals’ big finale, scheduled at 8pm.

But what’s on the horizon for Albert Square residents?

On Monday’s EastEnders instalment, Phil Mitchell (portrayed by Steve McFadden) gathered up all the evidence he needed to prove Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) and his mother Karen had staged Albie Watts’ kidnapping ordeal.

As fans will recall, the pair demanded a hefty ransom in exchange for the boy’s safe return home to his mother Sharon (Letitia Dean), making her believe her little boy was in danger.

Elsewhere in the Square, sparks have been flying between Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).

Both characters shared a charged moment last night as Jack was at a loss when faced with the task of taking care of his baby granddaughter Charli.

Denise Fox (Diane Parish) also returned home from a well-deserved holiday but she wasn’t pleased with Jack when he admitted to having welcomed Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) in their home during her absence.

Meanwhile, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) has been desperate to find out what happened to her lover Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) who was pushed out of Walford by the businesswoman’s husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry).

Sadly for Suki, her pleas for help had no effect on an unsympathetic Stacey who deemed she had led her best pal on long enough.

Will Suki ever find out what happened to Eve?

Could she team up with Stacey to find her?

How will Phil let Sharon know her fiancé Keanu and Karen staged Albie’s kidnapping?

Could this prompt Sharon to drop a bombshell of her own on her ex-husband?

All that and more on Wednesday, December 6, at 7.30pm on BBC One.
