There is no worse trigger for a traumatic incident than witnessing another similar one. Gina on EastEnders experienced a similar fate in the recent episode of the BBC One soap. When she found out about Jay’s horrific car crash, she was shook. Gina blamed George and the Mitchells for ill treating him right before the tragedy struck. Perhaps suggesting that their behaviour towards Jay pushed him to load himself with Ketamine that eventually caused him to plummet his car into a tree.
Shaken by the news, Gina asked mum Cindy to take her to the hospital on EastEnders. Later, Gina broke down and admitted an unexpected truth. “His name was Antonio,” Gina voice broke as she showed a man’s picture to Cindy. Furthermore, she admitted that he was her boyfriend and the center of her universe. However, their life together was cut short when he passed due to a drug overdose. Perhaps this is why she feels so responsible for Jay. Because she has seen it happen before, and she knows how badly such things end.
“I blamed myself, I blamed myself a lot,” she cried to her mother, feeling guilty over turning a blind eye to what Anotino had been doing. Gina admitted to Cindy that this is why she was so focused on Jay on EastEnders. She did not want him to suffer the same fate. But she fears that she failed him too as he could be already dead. But this is a fear that not only Gina but perhaps every single love one of Jay is battling right now. Yes, the man made a mistake by leaning on drugs to cope with his loss.
But that certainly does not mean that he deserves the horrifying fate that seems to be lingering upon him on EastEnders. And as Gina pointed, Jay did feel overwhelmed and pushed to his limits after being shunned by his loved ones. So that is a guilt each one of them will have to live with for the rest of their lives, should anything happen to Jay. There is no news on what will happen in his storyline next. Whether or not Jay survives, still remains a mystery.
In fact, EastEnders star Jamie Brothwick posted a goodbye post for Jay on his Instagram account, taking the confusion several notches higher. Does that mean Jay is dying on the soap? We sincerely hope not! Because, a redemption track after this accident would make a lot more sense. If he survives, there is also a possibility or a track between him and Gina.
