EastEnders fans have been begging for a return from Mick Carter ever since his dramatic exit last year.

In December 2022, after nearly a decade on the BBC soap, Mick (Danny Dyer) found himself in a final showdown with scheming Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and soulmate Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). On Christmas Day, Mick jumped off a cliff to rescue Linda and Janine after their car plummeted into the sea.

After successfully rescuing both women, Mick seemingly drowned after never making it back to shore. As his body wasn’t found, he has been presumed dead ever since. But that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that the character could somehow make a triumphant return.

With an unidentified male set to die this Christmas, fans can’t help but think Mick could be involved. Here, Daily Star has rounded up the possible ways the beloved character could return.

Dean revenge

In 2014, Mick’s half-brother Dean (Matt Di Angelo) raped Linda upstairs in the Queen Vic. Dean was eventually chased out of Walford in 2016, with Mick vowing to never forgive him for the heinous act.

But less than one year after Mick’s apparent death, Dean made his way back to Albert Square. Ever since his return, fans have theorised that Dean must be the man who is murdered on Christmas Day.

And some believe Dean’s killer won’t be one of The Six, but Mick. Sharing their thoughts online, one wrote: “Having a guess at Mick will be coming back and kill Dean,” said one on X. A second echoed: “What if Mick turns up on Christmas Day as Dean is attacking Linda and Mick delivers the cruel final blow. I just know he’s looming.”

Another added: “What happens if Mick returns to save Linda from Dean and is the dead body at Christmas? A fourth chipped in: “My guess is that it isn’t one of The Six that does the deed. Dean’s return feels temporary so I reckon Mick makes a surprise reappearance and clobbers him.”

Despite a number of fans believing Mick will return to kill Dean, others have wondered whether he is somehow the body on the floor in The Vic. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “I’m telling you all the dead body on Christmas Day will be Mick. DONT ASK ME HOW IM TELLING YOU!”

A second asked: “What if the body at Christmas is Mick’s?” Someone else wrote: “Mick is the body on the floor of The Vic?” A fourth agreed: “Can you imagine if the body on the Vic floor was actually Mick, mistaken identity or freak accident!”

Flashback

EastEnders fans are convinced they’ve figured out another unique way Mick could make his epic return to Albert Square. Viewers argue a flashback is far more realistic than a full-blown return, given Danny’s recent exit.

“With this whole storyline I wouldn’t be surprised if micks ‘return’ is more of a flashback thing, I don’t think he will be returning,” said one fan. Another agreed: “I don’t see Danny Dyer reprising this role any time soon sadly, but I think a flashback is such a good way to give the people what they want and bring him back on Christmas.”

Someone else shared: “One year since Mick’s death can’t believe it. I think a flashback would be epic!! I don’t think he’s coming back for real.”
