EastEnders screenwriter reveals heartbreak after ‘darling’ mum dies

EastEnders screenwriter Sarah Phelps has expressed her grief over the death of her mum.

The A Very British Scandal creator shared the sad news with her Twitter, aka X, followers and revealed that her mum died from cancer.

She wrote: ‘My darling mum died at 3 minutes past 1 this morning.

‘God but cancer is so remorseless but at the very very end, it was gentle, she was at home and we were all with her.

‘We loved her so very much. Go well across the shining river. Go well.’

Fans flocked to the comments to send their condolences to the star.

One person replied: ‘Oh Sarah, I’m so sorry to hear this. Huge love to you xxx’

Another added: ‘Oh Sarah, I’m so so sorry. Take care of yourself. Losing a parent is one of the most profound experiences you go through in life – be good to yourself.’

EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy, who is best known for playing Sonia Fowler, wrote: ‘Sending you love and strength. To be with them is such a gift.’

Phelps wrote 94 episodes of EastEnders from January 2002 to December 2007 and then again from March 2015 to May 2016.

She has also been responsible for series such as No Angels and Holby Blue among others as well as the mini-series Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Hooten & the Lady, Ordeal by Innocence and The ABC Murders.

The screenwriterserved as the executive producer on The Crimson Field, And Then There Were None, Ordeal by Innocence and The ABC Murders. She also wrote a television adaption of J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy in 2015.
