EastEnders star James Bye has admitted that this year’s Christmas episode is up there with the best.

The actor, who plays Martin Fowler in the BBC One soap, promised fans that the upcoming festive outing will be ‘massive’.

‘It is definitely up there with all the Christmases I’ve read, it’s definitely up there,’ he said in a new chat. ‘It will be a massive Christmas.’

While there is always excitement surrounding the festive offerings of EastEnders, this year’s in particular has got fans more excited than ever, due to it having been teased all the way back in February.

A flash-forward scene saw Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) standing over a dead body on Christmas Day 2023.

The six aforementioned women were seen in complete and utter shock, with Sharon – who was wearing a wedding dress – checking the pulse of the unfortunate resident, confirming his death.

Discussing why this year’s festive episode is particularly effective, James told The Mirror: ‘The guys behind the story who have come up with this, they’ve just walloped it.

‘They know what they’re doing, they’ve brought it back to what people want from Christmas. They want a big EastEnders Christmas’.

They most certainly do!

Ever since EastEnders teased the flash-forward, fans have been working around the clock to try and figure out who the victim is.

But with suspects aplenty and some truly excellent storylining, it’s been very difficult to narrow down the list.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
