Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) and brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) have plenty of bad blood between them in EastEnders and now she’s about to seriously cross the line.

The pair have had multiple fallings-out over the years, most recently after Sam helped gangster Jonah Tyler (Mark Mooney) in his attempt to bring down the Mitchell empire.

Not to mention her fling with Phil’s arch-rival Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), who as viewers know, ended up dead and buried under the floor of the cafe in epic but unrelated Christmas scenes.

But it’s at the funeral of Aunt Sal, the formidable, sharp-tongued sister of Sam and Phil’s mum Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) where things really start to kick off.

Aunt Sal’s husband Harold Martin (David Stern) makes a throwaway comment about Aunt Sal leaving her, Phil and brother Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) an inheritance of £100,000.

‘In true Sam style, she can’t sit on this information for more than a minute so storms over to Phil and says, “When were you going to give me this money or even tell me about it?”,’ says Kim.

‘Sam is working for free at Peggy’s to pay her debt (to Phil) off. So she thinks, “You give me the money and then we’ll decide, but it’s not for you to just leave me out of that equation”.

‘The relationship between Sam and Phil is that he’s always been the bully. She has had a whole lifetime of being told what to do by her big brother.’

But when Phil refuses to pay up, Sam is handed just the ammunition she needs to fight back.

She finds out through Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) that Phil slept with Lola Pearce’s mum, Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit).

‘Alfie makes a comment which Sam picks up on and Alfie tells her. She can’t bear that Phil is walking around pretending that he’s cleaner than clean and supposed to very much in love with Kat.

‘Sam thinks that he’s completely hypocritical and his behaviour is far worse.’

So Sam decides to blackmail Phil, demanding that he either pay up, or she’ll reveal his fling with Emma.

At first, Phil won’t play ball. But then, at his joint birthday party with wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) at the Queen Vic, he decides to go along with her demands.

Just as he’s having a heart-to-heart with Kat, Sam decides to strike.

She grabs the mic and announces his affair.

‘I think Sam realises there is no going back from this,’ says Kim. ‘ I don’t think she’s doing it to hurt Kat because she thinks Kat is good for Phil.

‘When he gives her the money, he’s so mean. She follows him, challenges him again and he continues to stick the knife in.

‘Sam thinks she’s got nothing to lose, she hasn’t really got a brother now.’

But will Phil find it is his heart to forgive Sam, as blood is thicker than water?

Or has she really gone too far this time?

Is this the end for Kat and Phil, too?
