Real life of EastEnders’ Jack Branning – modelling career and very famous wife
EastEnders' Jack Branning is never far away from the latest Albert Square drama, especially when it comes to affairs of the heart. For the actor who plays him, however, his steamy love scenes have been anything but enjoyable
Things are never exactly peaceful in Albert Square, however, EastEnders’ Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) has endured a particularly tricky year so far, and it doesn’t look as though things will quieten down as 2023 comes to a close. Although Jack and his wife Denise Fox (Diane Parish) currently appear to be a little more settled, it has taken them a while to recover following Denise’s passionate kiss with villainous Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara). Jack has also had to contend with becoming a granddad to baby Charli Slater, guiding his 13-year-old son Ricky Branning (Frankie Day) through the challenges of teenage parenthood.
Away from Walford, actor Scott lives a very different life from his onscreen counterpart, from his loved-up marriage with a very famous wife to a little-known modelling career. He’s also had plenty to say about certain love scenes.

Marriage to famous DJ
Police officer Jack has a rather colourful love life in the Square, but it would appear that, away from set, Scott has eyes for just one woman. The 52-year-old has been happily married to DJ, music producer, and singer-songwriter Estelle Rubio since 2008 when the pair tied the knot during a star-studded ceremony held at a Hertfordshire stately home.
The couple, who’ve been together since 1999, welcomed their son Zack to the world in 2001, and will often share sweet updates from family life via Instagram. In one sweet post marking Estelle’s birthday, Scott wrote: “Happy birthday @estellerubiomusic my beautiful wife for life! Wishing you the best day.”
Estelle has enjoyed enormous success in her music career, having DJ-d all across the world while working with some huge names in the business, including Basement Jaxx, Clean Bandit, and La Roux.

Modelling career
Scott is of course best known for his acting talents, both in EastEnders and in his previous role as DS Phil Hunter in The Bill. Fans may not realise however that he pursued a very different, but equally glamorous, career in his twenties, which came about after he was spotted in Miami by American fashion photographer Bruce Webber.
The stylish thespian was signed up as a professional model, a breakthrough which saw him work for the likes of Armani and Versace. After five years in the industry, however, Scott decided to make a change, enrolling at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he trained with close friend Orlando Bloom.

Uncomfortable love scenes
Jack’s relationship with Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) was perhaps the most iconic of his various romances, with the passionate couple encountering all sorts of ups and downs during their tempestuous relationship. In real life, however, Scott and Samantha are understood to have been close friends since their teenage years, with Jack even being the godfather to Samantha’s two children, Benjamin, and Lily–Rose.
This close bond made filming moments of intimacy all the more awkward, as Scott explained during an episode of Secrets from the Square, back in 2020. Scott revealed: “I’ve known Sam for so long it’s ridiculous. She’s very dear to me. That was actually a real hard thing coming in as an actor, because I’ve always worked with people that I don’t know. It’s easier in a way when you don’t know them. You have to play against all the other stuff if it’s your mate, you’ve got to go: ‘Oh!’ When we kissed we were both like: ‘Oh god!'”
During an interview with Jonathan Ross back in 2008, Samantha appeared to be equally uncomfortable about such scenes, admitting: “We know each other really well. Our first kissing scene felt really uncomfortable, it was terrible, but we’re over it now.”
