Why is EastEnders not on tonight, December 5?

Fans will have to wait for their next trip to Albert Square

EASTENDERS fans tuning into their next dose of the popular soap will be left disappointed as it isn’t on tonight (December 5, 2023).

The BBC One soap is being replaced by something else, and the next episode will air another time.

Why isn’t EastEnders on tonight?

EastEnders will not be shown tonight (December 5, 2023).

BBC One viewers have grown accustomed to catching up with the long running soap every Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm.

Instead tonight’s episode has been postponed to make way for an important football match.

Sports presenter Eilidh Barbour will be live from Glasgow‘s Hampden Park as Scotland face England in the final round of group games in the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League.

The match will be kicking off at 7.45pm.

When will EastEnders return to TV?

EastEnders will instead air tonight’s episode, TOMORROW (December 6, 2023) at 7:30pm on BBC One.

This means fans will have to wait another day before finding out what’s ahead for Albert Square residents.

While a week in Walford usually ends on a Thursday, the BBC has agreed to make an exception on this occasion, allowing soap fans to get their full fix.

EastEnders will also be airing on Friday, December 8, 2023, during its regular time slot and will be followed by MasterChef: The Professionals‘ big finale, scheduled at 8pm.

Fans will be looking forward to tomorrow night’s episode as last night’s one (December 4, 2023) was left on a real cliffhanger.

Phil Mitchell (portrayed by Steve McFadden) was seen gathering up all the evidence he needs to prove Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) and his mother Karen had staged Albie Watts’ kidnapping ordeal.

It came after the pair demanded a hefty ransom in exchange for the boy’s safe return home to his mother Sharon (Letitia Dean),.

Elsewhere in the Square, and things started to heat up between Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).

While Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) was seen trying to find out what happened to her lover Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) who was pushed out of Walford by the businesswoman’s husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry).

When did the first ever episode of EastEnders air on the BBC?

EastEnders has been the staple of early evening viewing for many years now.

When the BBC One soap broadcast their first ever episode on February 19, 1985, 13 million viewers tuned in.

It began with a bang as, Arthur Fowler, Ali Osman and Den Watts forced their way into Reg Cox’s flat and found Reg near death. .

EastEnders was created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland as a soap opera to rival Coronation Street and draw big audiences to BBC One.

Set in the fictional Borough of Walford, E20, it focuses on the lives of working class east end Londoners.
