BBC EastEnders fans ‘can’t stop crying’ as Jay’s fate revealed after actor’s shock exit admission
EastEnders have confirmed the fate of much loved character Jay Brown - after actor Jamie Borthwick appeared to announce he was leaving the BBC soap
EastEnders have confirmed Jay Brown’s fate – after Jamie Borthwick appeared to announce he was leaving the show.
Actor Jamie Borthwick took to Instagram yesterday evening in a now deleted post on his story where he shared a young photo of himself and paid tribute to his character. In the post, he wrote: “RIP Jay, gonna miss you lad. We had a laugh didn’t we.”
In scenes that aired last night, Jay was involved in a harrowing incident after taking drugs and trying to flee to Margate. Jamie had seemingly confirmed Jay will die in the shocking scenes, with Billy, Ben and Callum left terrified by a potential loss. Tonight, Billy and Honey kept a vigil at Walford Hospital, hoping that was where Jay was, before they were eventually let in to see him.

It was confirmed in a phone call from Callum to Ben that Jay is in an induced coma. He said: “They said he ploughed straight into a tree. He’s got swelling on the brain and they’ve had to put him into an induced coma. I’ll call you when I know more ok.”
Sat beside his ‘son’, Billy reassured an unresponsive Jay they were going nowhere. He said: “We’re with him though. You’re not on your own anymore Jay because we’re here for you. We’re all here for you.” Gina was informed by Ben what had happened before a heartbreaking call from Lexi and Ben as they sent their well wishes to Jay in the hope he could hear them somehow.
Through tears, Lexi told her stepdad: “I don’t know if you can hear me Jay. I know you feel bad but I don’t want you to feel bad. I just want you to come home Jay. Please. Please come home Jay,” whilst Ben also cried as he apologised for all his mistakes.

“Jay it’s Ben. I don’t know what to say. You’re my brother from another mother. Seriously, you’re my brother. And I need you to know that I forgive you and I need you to forgive me for everything I’ve said and everything I’ve done. Because I didn’t meant it. I need you to live Jay, I need you to wake up Jay. I need you by my side, I need my brother. I love you bro. I love you,” he said.
As Honey stepped out of the room to talk to Ben, Billy kept a bedside vigil by his son. He told him: “You heard them all. There’s so much love for you here Jay. Wherever you are now, you have to come back. You’ve got to fight because you have to live. Because you’re my son. You’re the son that I chose. I’m begging you son, don’t die. Please don’t die.”
Taking to social media, one fan wrote: “I’ve just watched tonight’s episode, most of which I spent sobbing. AGAIN. My heart is breaking for Jay. #EastEnders,” as a second added: “Just watched tonight’s #Eastenders and I’m now a blubbering wreck.”
