As fans predict a new romance on the horizon for EastEnders' Stacey Slater, we take a look at actor Lacey Turner's bumpy love life behind the scenes, including her marriage to childhood sweetheart
EastEnders’ Stacey Slater has been through many ups and downs when it comes to affairs of the heart, and her offscreen counterpart Lacey Turner has also endured a few bumps along the way to her happy ending. As Stacey faces stalker Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis) in court, many fans suspect an illicit romance brewing behind the scenes with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), who has supported her every step of the way throughout her terrifying ordeal.
Now, of course, Jack is married to wife Denise Fox (Diane Parish), but wedding vows haven’t exactly stopped EastEnders writers before, and it’s undeniable that the once-at-odds Stacey and Jack are beginning to bond on a deeper level. As Stacey deals with yet more twists and turns, we take a look at the soap-worthy love life of actor Lacey, including her marriage to her high school sweetheart.

Teenage romance and three break-ups
Lacey is now happily married to barbershop owner Matt Kay, but it wasn’t all plain sailing for the lovebirds. Edgware-born Lacey first locked eyes with Matt when she was just 15, and, as previously reported by The Sun, they ended up breaking no fewer than three times before finally reuniting for keeps.
Back in 2008, Lacey opened up about their various similarities, gushing: “He’s practically perfect. I’m really happy. We are very similar – we both like staying in and watching TV and films.”

Magical wedding and new traditions
Lacey couldn’t have been more thrilled when, In September 2016, Matt popped the question during a romantic gondola ride in Venice, with the couple delightedly sharing their news in a beaming Instagram snap. One year later, Lacey and Matt said ‘I do’ in Ibiza, with the pair reportedly dancing under the stars until the early hours with friends, family, and, of course, EastEnders legends such as the great Barbara Windsor.
The magical boho wedding looked like something out of a fairytale, and the couple also made sure to break a few traditions along the way to really make it their own. During an interview with OK! magazine, Lacey revealed: “Originally Matt was going to stay with his mum down the road but we thought that, as we hadn’t done much that was traditional, we might as well just stay together! It felt special to wake up on the morning of our wedding day together. I probably wouldn’t have slept as well anyway if I didn’t have Matt there.”
