Danny Walters who played Keanu Taylor in EastEnders has responded to fans over his exit on the Christmas Day episode but only gives brief insight into future plans

EastEnders fans had been left guessing over recent months over who the victim of the Christmas Day murder plot would be.

And on Christmas Day, it was finally revealed that Keanu Taylor, played by Danny Walters had met his demise and was stabbed in the back by Linda Carter , following his attempt to strangle Sharon Watts to death. And now, on the back of his shock exit, Danny took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank fans for their support. He wrote: “Thank you for all the love and support over the years. Time to wear a different costume.”

And his message was met with a flurry of comments by fans. Script writer for the soap, Sharon Marshall wrote: “You are just brilliant. So much love thought and care into every script you have. A true gentleman and artist. I have loved writing for you and will enjoy watching you soar (unlike poor Keanu in his rug) x.”

A fan added: “Actually felt sorry for Keanu, made a beautiful bond with Albie and truely loved Sharon. Wishing you all the best Danny, will miss seeing you as Keanu in Eastenders.” A third said: “Good luck for the future @DannyWalters_ Been a good journey.”

And a fourth commented: “I still think Keanu is alive. Either way absolutely brilliant acting in the Christmas Day episode.” In a bid to prevent the anticipated storyline leaking to the public, BBC bosses had a string of tactics to throw people off the scent regarding Keanu’s exit.

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw recently revealed: “We’ve had several methods in place throughout the entire year to keep the storyline a secret and to ensure that the Christmas Day episode and the big reveal of who’s on the floor – plus who does it – remains under wraps until the 25th December. Sadly, I can’t reveal what those methods are as that would give everything away, but it would be a real shame if anyone spoiled the surprise as we know how much the audience love watching the drama unfold in real-time.”

The BBC soap filmed several endings and speaking about his exit, Rocky Cotton, played by Brian Conley, explained a few months ago: “None of us have got a clue. ” He added: “I believe leading up to Christmas, there might be ten of us laying there so that it will be a big surprise to us as well. We’re all going to maybe film a moment where we’re all laying on the floor, and then right up until the last minute, they can reveal on Christmas Day who it is.”

Danny Walters was seen filming scenes which were at the time, expected to air in January onwards. The actor was seen chatting with Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning and is set to reprise her role in the New Year. He was pictured chatting to her on set, which seemingly meant he was not the body found in the Queen Vic pub.

The actor was then seen filming scenes at an airport. In the pictures, he was seen clutching his passport and a travel bag. It looked as though he was ready to depart from the UK after the kidnap plot of Sharon’s son Albie. But this, as we now know was a fake scene too.
