BBC EastEnders’ Rocky Cotton’s Christmas death ‘sealed’ – Kathy clue, sad exit and revenge twist

Rocky Cotton is one of the seven men at risk of being killed this Christmas - here's all the clues that point to Rocky being the one who ends up dead on the Queen Vic floor

Rocky Cotton is one of the seven men at risk of dying this Christmas on EastEnders.

One unlucky man will die this festive season in shocking scenes, with seven names currently at risk of dying. Rocky is one of the main suspects, after Kathy learned the truth of what he’d done to her beloved café.

In shocking scenes, he started an electrical fire in the café and left Kathy’s grandkids – Bobby and Peter Beale – at risk of death. This has put him right in the firing line with Kathy – but could this mean he ends up dead this Christmas?

The Six have been at the forefront of discussions over who the Christmas body might be – but at a recent press event, attended by The Mirror, could actress Gillian Taylforth – who plays Kathy – have let slip that Rocky dies?

Speaking to us she shared: “The trouble is, she’s given him so many chances that she’s given up with him now. To find out that he was going to actually let her take the blame for the café fire and also for almost killing her grandchildren. That is despicable and that’s why she says, ‘that’s it, I’ve had enough, get out of my life.

“She still loves him. And there’s that awful thing with love and hate. She loves him but she hates what he’s done, but deep down, she still really loves him and things are going – I can’t tell you. I could tell you but I’d have to kill you.” She went on to add: “Things will happen with Rocky and it’s going to be very upsetting. Very sad Brian Conley’s left, he’s lovely. It was so lovely to work with him. I don’t think she will forgive him over this one, but she’s still got a deep love for him.”

However, she quickly clarified that speaking about him in past tense didn’t mean he had died – but could she have just dropped a hint that Kathy might be the one to kill Rocky this Christmas – or is it a red herring?

Sad exit

We know one man dies this Christmas on EastEnders – but we only know that Rocky actor Brian Conley is exiting the soap. The actor confirmed earlier this year that he would be departing his role on the BBC soap.

Whilst some fans think him confirming his exit proves he isn’t the victim, could that actually be a double bluff by him and EastEnders bosses – and is he really going to be the Walford male who dies in less than a week’s time?

Speaking about his exit in September, he said: “Hello lovely people, it’s me, Brian Conley AKA Rocky from EastEnders. Sending out this message, especially to all the EastEnders fans. Now, you may have heard reports that I’m leaving EastEnders and it was a tough decision but it is true… I am going. I made it for many reasons, this decision, and it’s tough because they’re such a wonderful crowd. In front of the cameras and behind the cameras, I’ve loved my three years there. So that’s the truth in the reports!

“There’s other parts of the reports saying that I ‘clashed’ with TV bosses and the crew. I didn’t ‘clash’ with anyone, I didn’t have a rant. I’ve gone with their [EastEnders’] blessings at the BBC, I’m excited about the future and where it’s going to go. I’m also excited about Rocky’s exit… as I know it’s good! So I’m sending you much love, all the EastEnders fans, and yeah… enough said!”

Revenge

Rocky Cotton on EastEnders

In the flashforward scene, which aired back in February, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Kathy had a ripped dress. Whilst the other women also have various injuries on them – Linda’s split lip, Stacey and Sharon’s bloodied dresses – could this point to Kathy having been in a tussle with her husband over what he’s done.

Speaking about the possibility, she said: “I think it’s safe to say that Rocky is firmly in Kathy’s bad books. He set fire to her café, put two of her grandsons in hospital, and then he had the brass nerve to convince her to sell the café to Nish so that he could get away scot-free with his crimes. Kathy has forgiven him time and time again, but this time it’s one time too many.”

Adding of what Rocky meant to her, she shared: “She’s heartbroken. After Gavin, Kathy didn’t think she’d have another chance at love again and then along came Rocky, who through want of trying, taught her to love again. She thought their marriage was for keeps but he’s pushed her too far this time, so she’s finally called it quits. Kathy would love nothing more than to be happily married to Rocky, but he’s incapable of being honest with her and she can’t live with the constant lies.”
