EastEnders’ Bobby Brazier breaks silence over BBC Strictly loss and teases career change

Bobby Brazier very almost lifted the Glitterball trophy on Saturday night but missed out thanks to viewers voting Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola as their 2023 Strictly Come Dancing winners

EastEnders' Bobby Brazier: his age, girlfriend, Strictly 2023 and InstagramBobby Brazier has broken his silence after Saturday night’s big Strictly Come Dancing final.

The EastEnders actor, 20, and his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell missed out on victory to Ellie Leach over the weekend, as the former Coronation Street actress became the youngest ever celebrity to lift the Glitterball trophy with her rumoured boyfriend Vito Coppola.

While Bobby has posted on social media since the final, he had not spoken about the show finishing until now. Speaking on Loose Women on Wednesday, Bobby was joined by his father Jeff Brazier as he talked about the “immense joy and deep distress” the show brought him.

He also teased a career change ahead of his return to EastEnders, keen to take on musical theatre after his time on the show. Asked about how he was doing after missing out on the trophy last weekend, Bobby said: “I feel a bit lost. I miss Diane. I’m eating ice cream for breakfast, I’m in no kind of physical place… I don’t know what to do, what do I do?”

Describing his time on Strictly, he went on: “Immense joy and deep distress but memories that will last a lifetime. I knew from the very beginning that I didn’t want to miss out on anything, I wanted to experience all of Strictly and I feel like I did.

“I didn’t miss out on any of the dances, as I say, I experienced immense joy and deep distress and I welcomed it all and I loved every second. Actually, that’s a lie. I didn’t love every second.” Asked if he could move into a musical theatre or stage role, he said: “I think so. In the final, we did our show dance and it was very ‘showy’. It was very ‘musically’ and yeah, I really enjoyed it.”

Prior to Saturday night’s Strictly final, Bobby explained to the Mirror and other press just how much competing on the iconic BBC series has changed his life – in particularly meeting his dance partner Diane. “I’d like to think that hopefully I’ve taken a little bit of Dianne – like the resilience and the determination and the vision and the creativeness,” the soap star revealed.

He continued to add: “More than just being able to move so well, it is the resilience and the determination and all those things. I really hope that I can take those things with me too.” Dianne then chimed in to add what she had learned from her time with the actor: “I’ve definitely taken a little bit of zen from Bobby,” before Bobby quipped back: “I think I’ve probably lost a little bit of zen.”

Bobby may have missed out on lifting the Glitterball trophy but the eldest son of the late Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier still has a very bright future ahead of him. Both Bobby and his fellow Strictly finalist Layton have both been approached to make documentaries about the hurdles they have overcome in life.

Independent production companies that create films for major TV channels including the BBC are fighting to sign the pair up following last night’s final. Pitches heard by the Sunday Mirror include EastEnders actor Bobby, 20, exploring the theme of parental loss and West End star Layton, 29, investigating what can be done to stop homophobia online.
