George Knight (Colin Salmon) was recently surprised by a visit from his parents, Eddie (Christopher Fairbank) and Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) in EastEnders, who soon revealed a shocking secret.

The Queen Vic landlord was left stunned as his adoptive parents revealed that they had been paid to take him in as a baby, before eventually legally adopting him.

Rocked by the news, he agreed to meet with ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), and he had soon told her everything he knew.

When Cindy asked if he had done any research about it, George revealed that he couldn’t bring himself to do it, and Cindy was quick to offer her support.

After a quick search, Cindy and George found information on child farming, and it seemed that most of the information rang true for George’s situation.

He had previously revealed to Cindy that his birth parents had placed an advert in the local paper for someone to take him in, and Cindy’s research revealed that this was commonplace between 1966 and 1970.

Seeing as George was born during this time, Cindy was certain that they were on the right track, though one fact stood out that left George unsure.

He pointed out that the research showed that it was mainly African immigrants who placed adverts in the papers, whereas he was of Jamaican heritage.

However, Cindy wasn’t sure that was entirely true, and when George pointed out that Gloria had said yes when he asked her if his parents were Jamaican, she revealed that his adopted mum could have just told him what he wanted to hear to stop him asking any questions.

As George thought about it, he realised there had been clues throughout his childhood that pointed to him not being of Jamaican heritage, which he revealed to Cindy.

After heading home, George continued his research, when he was interrupted by furious fiancée Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who demanded to know where he had been.

As it dawned on him how little he knew about his heritage, he broke down to Elaine as he admitted that he didn’t know who he was anymore.

Will he be able to get the answers he needs?
