BBC EastEnders star surprises fans by joining Strictly Come Dancing 2023 lineup

A major soap star from Albert Square will be switching Walford for the dancefloor next month as he confirms he is set to appear on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special

BBC EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has confirmed he’ll be joining the cast on Strictly Come Dancing ’s Christmas Special line-up.

The soap star, who plays troubled widower Jay Brown, joined host Fleur east on Wednesday’s episode of Strictly spin-off, It Takes Two (November 22) when he sent fans into a frenzy with excitement. Admitting is was a “dream come true” to appear on the show, he admitted that “the pressure is on” following the success of his fellow co-star in years gone by.

“It really is but the pressure is on coz I know everyone from EastEnders has done very well when they’ve come on the show,” he said, pulling a worried face at the camera. Fans flooded social media with comments.

“OMG Jamie Borthwick on the #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing Xmas special,” said one fan. Another penned: “awesome can’t wait,” and a third echoed: “Fantastic – go Jamie!”

Another fan pointed out his former on-screen wife, Dannielle Harold, who played Lola, is also appearing on reality TV. “Jay-from-Eastenders while Lola is in the jungle, I know which show I’d rather do at Christmas!”

Sally Nugent was the second Christmas celebrity to be revealed, she will be paired with Graziano Di Prima. Sally presents BBC Breakfast on BBC One and she has covered some of the biggest news and sport stories of the last 20 years.

Strictly Come Dancing, produced by BBC Studios returns to the Ballroom which will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland for an all-star Christmas special that promises to dazzle audiences with a magical blend of dance, glitter, and festive cheer as six brand new celebrity contestants take to the floor in a bid to be crowned Christmas Champion 2023.

Each of the six couples will perform a festive fuelled routine with the hope of impressing the judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, Head Judge Shirley Ballas, and the voting studio audience.
