EastEnders stars ‘gobsmacked’ and ‘couldn’t believe it’ as Christmas killer and victim revealed

The stars of EastEnders couldn't believe the outcome to the flash-forward sequence which saw six of Walford's matriarchs standing over an unidentified man's body in The Vic

EastEnders fans are just weeks away from discovering which man dies in The Vic on Christmas Day.

Since February, the BBC soap has been gearing up for the festive period after sharing a flashforward scene which offered viewers a glimpse into the Christmas Day storyline. Fans know that one Walford male will find himself on the floor of The Queen Vic in the dreaded cufflinks.

Six of Walford’s much-loved matriarchs will become embroiled in a series of events that will lead to his demise, and over the last 10 months, several male characters have made an enemy of one of The Six. While fans will remain in the dark until Christmas Day, the six stars involved are now aware who dies and the circumstances leading up to his death.

Speaking ahead of the huge reveal, the soap stars revealed how they felt when they finally learned the truth. Letitia Dean, who has played Sharon Watts on and off since the soap’s first episode in 1985, admitted she was “shocked” by the outcome.

The 56-year-old added: “I was not expecting it, and I don’t think any of us were! I’m excited to see how it will play out as I think the viewers are going to love it. Although, it was easier not knowing as now I’m scared to open my mouth in case I say something I shouldn’t!”

Kathy Beale actress Gillian Taylforth explained she had her predictions, but remained tight-lipped on whether she was correct. “We’ve all been guessing just as much as the viewers, so it was great to finally know,” the 68-year-old said.

Newest addition Balvinder Sopal, who has portrayed Suki Panesar since 2020, didn’t give too much away when asked how she felt after finding out. The 45-year-old responded: “Let’s just say I was very excited to get going, and I couldn’t wait to be able to break it all apart and find the inner workings of what was going to happen and then put it all together again and execute it.”

Denise Fox star Diane Parish admitted she was “gobsmacked” but couldn’t wait to find out more. “Gobsmacked, but really intrigued,” she explained. “It was great to see how it all came together, and all the little nuances that the writing team have drip-fed along the way all meet at this crescendo point.
