EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw has teased how long viewers will have to wait until they work out exactly who dies in the big Christmas death storyline.
The show’s Executive Producer teased what was ahead on the BBC soap ahead of the much anticipated Christmas Day episode, which will see a death and a possible murder twist. Viewers know that one mystery male character will die in a twist in the big episode, as teased in a flashforward in February.
In the clip, The Queen Vic becomes a crime scene as a mystery man lays dead on the floor, with six female characters looking over him. No details on who dies and how he dies are revealed, and there is no context as of yet for what leads to the scenes.
What we do know is that Linda Carter, Denise Fox, Stacey Slater, Kathy Beale, Sharon Watts and Suki Panesar are at the scene of the crime, with them all looking shocked while covered on blood or injuried, while some of their outfits are ripped. One of them is tipped to be the killer, but who dies?
Chris has shared more about the big cufflinks clue, suggesting multiple characters would be wearing them. Viewers noted back in February that the dead body had a particular pair of cufflinks on his suit sleeves. So when those very same cufflinks featured in an episode a few months ago, fans were sure it was a clue.
The cufflinks have made there way round to a number of characters, currently in the possession of Phil Mitchell. That said Alfie Moon actor Shane Richie recently teased his character could get his hands on replica versions of the suit piece, and might even sell them on his market stall.
Chris has appeared to back this now, suggesting more than one pair will be shown on screen by Christmas. This means there could be multiple characters facing death, and that by December we may be able to narrow down the list of victims.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, soap boss Chris teased it would be a long while before viewers know the truth, before adding hints of another major clue. He said: “You’re going to be guessing right up until the very last moment. As we build through the autumn, stories come into play for each of The Six, building toward a big crescendo.
“And, while Phil currently has the cufflinks, keep your eyes peeled as they may not be the only pair come Christmas…” So it seems we will be guessing who dies for a while to come, with plenty more clues and teasers on the way.
