Vicki Michelle still gets sexy fan mail from randy men at 72 – but insists it’s not dodgy
‘Allo ‘Allo star played Yvette Carte-Blanche had men hot under the collar back in the 1980s and things haven't changed for the British actress in her 70s
Ooh la la! Vicki Michelle is still a sex symbol at 72. The actress made men across the country hot under the collar when she played saucy Yvette Carte-Blanche in ‘Allo ‘Allo in the 80s.
And all these years later, she’s still got plenty of them lusting after her.
She said: “I’ve still got a few admirers. Actually, there are a lot. I still get fan mail. It’s always nice stuff, too; I don’t get anything dodgy. It’s always from people saying they think I’m lovely and they love seeing me as different characters.”
It took Vicki years to realise she had so much sex appeal. Back in the day, she had no clue.
She added: “When we were making ‘Allo ‘Allo, I didn’t really think I was a sex symbol. I did have quite a good following from the male species, but I didn’t think about it much.
“I was thinking about acting and the role. It was only afterwards that I realised I had that appeal. I wish I’d thought about it… I could have cashed in on it!”
It’s not just randy men that love Vicki. The Essex-born star is a hit with fans of all ages.
She said: “Because ‘Allo ‘Allo was a family show, people have been brought up on it. You have grans and grandpas introducing their grandkids to it. They can watch it together.”
The show, which was set in a French cafe during the Second World War, aired for nine series between 1982 and 1992.
And more than 30 years on, it’s still being repeated regularly.
Vicki said: “I watch old episodes because they make me laugh. Even when I know what’s going to happen, I still laugh. I didn’t realise when we were making it how cleverly written it was.”
Vicki reckons sitcoms are as important as they’ve ever been because we need a giggle to help us get through tough times.
She added: “We need laughter. People want to laugh because they have so much to worry about. We need to have fun and enjoy ourselves.”
Since ‘Allo ‘Allo, Vicky has been a regular on primetime TV. Over the years she’s starred on Emmerdale, competed on I’m A Celebrity and had a string of film roles. Her latest high profile job has been playing Jo Cotton on EastEnders.

It has given her a new challenge more than 50 years into her career.
She said: “Joining EastEnders was daunting because you rehearse, record, rehearse, record, so it’s busy. And you get nervous because it’s such a well-known show. But everyone was so helpful and lovely.
“I don’t think there was one person in all the cast, all the directors and everyone on the floor that wasn’t a lovely person. It’s great to have that sort of atmosphere on set.”
