She played the polarising character of Zainab Masood from 2007 until her departure in 2013.

Addressing why she left EastEnders, Nina, 54, told OK! Mag: “Part of me needed to leave and I was devastated.

“I didn’t suit being in the same character for that long and I was finding myself climbing the walls with just playing Zainab.”

In good news for fans, she declared: “They were kind to me on the show in that they didn’t kill her off and I’m sure at one point I will return.”

Since leaving EastEnders Nina has went on to star in a number of shows such as Death in Paradise and The Sandman.

Wadia was also a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 where she was paired with Neil Jones.

However, they were the first pair to be voted off the show that year.

She previously revealed how a fan asked her for a selfie while she was in labour.

Nina told the Daily Star: “The strangest place I’ve been recognised was when I was giving birth. They asked for a selfie. It was really odd timing – it was a slightly strange sensation.

“It was a very unusual time to ask. It’s not a good thing to happen when you’re mid-delivery. My response was, ‘How about not now… maybe after’.”
